MDRN Consulting EHR & Clinical Informatics Consulting

The EHR, from both sides of the screen.

MDRN Consulting advises health systems, vendors, and digital health teams on the technology clinicians actually use โ€” led by a practicing nurse turned informatics director who has worked the bedside, the build, and the boardroom side of the electronic health record.

Informatics expertise, on demand

Two decades in nursing and a decade leading clinical informatics โ€” available as focused advisory support for the decisions and designs that shape how care gets documented, ordered, and delivered.

EHR integration & interoperability advisory

Guidance on Epic integrations, HL7 and FHIR interfaces, and interface engines โ€” from interface scoping and vendor coordination through go-live and optimization.

EHR selection, purchasing & implementation

Independent, clinician-informed support for evaluating systems, structuring purchasing decisions, and planning implementations that fit real clinical workflows.

Electronic orders & results workflow design

Design and refinement of computerized ordering and results workflows โ€” the connective tissue between clinicians, laboratories, and the systems that link them.

Documentation & chart design

Chart and documentation design that captures what care requires without burying clinicians in clicks โ€” notes, flowsheets, and order sets built around how nurses and providers actually work.

UAT, governance & adoption strategy

User acceptance testing programs, informatics governance structures, and change strategies that turn go-lives into sustained adoption rather than workarounds.

Clinical workflow optimization

Practical assessment of clinical and operational workflows, with recommendations grounded in frontline experience โ€” not just system configuration.

About Matthew Davis

Matthew Davis has been a registered nurse since 2005, and has spent his career moving between the two worlds the EHR has to serve: the bedside, where care happens, and the informatics office, where the systems behind that care are chosen, built, and governed.

From 2015 to 2023, he served as Manager of Clinical Informatics at Baylor Scott & White Health, supervising a team of 15 nurses and leading EHR implementation, user acceptance testing, governance, training, and adoption across the system โ€” work recognized with the system's Top 30 Nurse Award in 2019. He now serves as Director of Clinical Informatics at a national diagnostics company, leading electronic ordering and results integration strategy.

He has presented at Epic's User Group Meeting and served on the ANCC Informatics Standard Setting Panel. He also founded MDRN Legal Nurse Consulting, applying the same record-level fluency to case review for attorneys.

Fixed-scope advisory engagements

Defined-scope projects such as workflow or documentation assessments and EHR selection support โ€” agreed deliverables, agreed timeline, no open-ended retainer.

03
